DAVIS FREEMAN:
KARAOKE(ART)
In 1999, the acclaimed artist Davis Freeman opened his own company, Random Scream, with an aim to expose the eclectic elements of everyday culture with proposed lines of flight for dance, theatre, and visual arts. It is in coherency with this concept that he now brings the project Karaoke(ART), a contemporary video art exhibition of 25 political, conceptual & pornographic videos, a gesture to create a unique event from the collision of contemporary art and the karaoke phenomenon. Over the past year Random Scream has invited 25 internationally acclaimed artists to create their own video for a popular karaoke song. Each artist was given a selection of songs to choose from and asked to use their own personal style to reflect on what it’s like to live in the world today using the song as their conduit. The artists were free to create whatever video they desired as long as it embedded the karaoke music and words. The only performers this evening will be you, the audience, as only someone choosing a song to sing can activate the artwork.
