DRAGO IVANUŠA:

THE HUMAN BEAST

One of the most prolific Slovenian composers, Drago Ivanuša, is arriving with a solo piano project, La Bête humaine / The Human Beast, which presents a musical view of the times we live in and the position of the individual in a world full of tension. The reference to the 1938 Jean Renoir’s film La Bête humaine (a screen version of Émile Zola’s novel La Bête humaine) is not coincidental. The current times bear astonishing resemblance to the times when the film La Bête humaine was made. The program of the performance contains 12 compositions with improvised parts, energetic textures full of harmonics and polyrhythms. Ivanuša’s music is expressive, eclectic and unpredictable. He makes good use of his experience in theatre and film, which gives his music a strong, exact dramaturgy and exciting content. He draws inspiration from different jazz and classical composers and performers: Bill Evans, Cecil Taylor, Luciano Berio, Vinko Globokar, Tomaž Grom ...
