Daniel Linehan (USA/BE):
MEDIUM, MEDIUM
Linehan’s choreographic work is intent on softly obscuring the line between dance and everything else, which can be observed throughout his opus — from Digested Noise (2004) to Vita Activa (2013), a participatory project for 40 unemployed people (co-directed with Michael Helland). He continues to push boundaries; or should we rather say, keeps erasing boundaries. At the Spider Festival, the author will bring objects to life. So that they dance. The dancer in Medium, medium embodies the role of a tour guide, while we are his subjects of spectatorship navigation. But Linehan the guide is not in the business of mere informing. He engages with artworks in a playful way, dancing and talking in order to enter into diverse kinds of relationships between his moving body and the object, creating links, parallels, slippages, and tangents between his dances and the artworks. Linehan immerses himself in relations between the body and artistic object, he speaks to them, he reads to them (and to us) from his book A No Can Make Space (2013). The conversation is unique: this time he will meet with the objects in Plečnik’s Summer Theatre.
