ANA ROMIH & BENO NOVAK:
A BODY IN CONCERT
This is how it went: Ana Romih and Beno Novak had conceptualised A body in concert, a performance that builds on an exploration of closeness and distance between bodies, on a search for harmony among the sounds of bodies. In their own words: “While we were exposed to vibrations/frequencies, we looked for differences between one body and the other (male and female) and an effect of these differences on the body’s movement. Through a realisation that we are two different persons, individuals with different views, we stopped looking for what connects us and instead started building on our differences.” Then, shit hit the fan: a new, quarantine reality. A new meaning to social distance. Hence, a new direction, “that within restrictions which the current crisis has laid on art, we look for freedom instead of fighting the restrictions, as the combat with restrictions would only confirm this situation.” A body in concert is now an outdoors ritual, a ritual that the audience is not to merely observe, but is its constitutive element.
