IVA SVESHTAROVA & WILLY PRAGER:
SHAMEBOX
The contemporary dance artists Iva Sveshtarova and Willy Prager confront the very basic and quotidian idea that is “shame” as a matter of artistic research. They lock themselves up in a box together with the phenomenon of shame in order to investigate it from within. They enter as kids, led by their endless, even ruthless, curiosity. But the game gets harsher and the infantile desires become more and more shameless. That is why Sveshtarova and Prager move to the virtual boxes where they can continue to play around. Often in a brutal manner, which is at the same time grotesquely funny. How far it all goes and how much might the artists endure the shame’s performativity can only be found out by the spectators who come and experience the shamebox in person.
“The transcription of the feeling of shame is transmitted with persistence and depth. Shame turns out to be a key emotion for the contemporary person, in which lays his primary need of love.” (Elena Angelova, kultura.bg)
